Self
Awareness

Self awareness begins with noticing. What are you thinking? What are you feeling? What is happening in your body? What do you automatically do next?

You do not have to analyse every response. Sometimes simply becoming aware of what is happening creates enough space to understand yourself more clearly.

You cannot notice everything at once. Begin with what is present right now.
Understand

What does self awareness actually mean?

Self awareness is the ability to notice your internal experience and recognise how it may influence your behaviour, choices and relationships.

Awareness is observation.

It means noticing what is happening without immediately deciding that it is good, bad, right or wrong.

You might notice a thought, a change in your body, an emotion, an urge to react or a familiar story appearing in your mind.

Awareness is not judgement.

Becoming aware of something does not mean you need to criticise yourself for it.

The goal is not to watch yourself perfectly. The goal is to become more familiar with your own internal world.

Notice

Self awareness can begin in several places.

You do not need to monitor everything. Choose one area and begin noticing what happens naturally.

01

Thoughts

Notice the sentences that appear automatically. What do you tell yourself when something goes wrong, feels uncertain or does not go as planned?

02

Emotions

Notice what you are feeling before trying to explain it away. You do not need the perfect label.

03

Body signals

Notice tension, heaviness, restlessness, warmth, tightness or changes in breathing. The body often responds before words arrive.

04

Triggers

Notice moments when your reaction feels stronger than the situation seems to require. Something important may have been activated.

05

Behaviour

Notice what you automatically do when uncomfortable. Do you withdraw, explain, please, control, avoid or become silent?

06

Needs

Notice what may be missing beneath the reaction. Rest, safety, reassurance, space, clarity, connection or something else.

Reflect

Questions that help you look a little closer.

You do not need to answer every question. Choose the one that makes you pause.

What has been taking up the most space in my mind lately?
What emotion have I been feeling but not really acknowledging?
What situations tend to bring out the same reaction in me?
What do I usually do when I feel uncomfortable or uncertain?
What am I telling myself about what is happening?
What might I need underneath this reaction?
Nasia Experiment

Notice one moment before you react.

For one day, choose one type of situation that usually creates a quick reaction in you.

Do not try to stop the reaction. Simply see whether you can notice what happens just before it.

In that moment, ask yourself: What just happened?

What did I immediately think?

What did I feel in my body?

What did I want to do next?
Journal

Give what you notice somewhere to land.

Writing can make internal experiences easier to observe. You do not need to write a lot.

Begin with what is present.

Try not to write what you think you should feel. Start with what is actually there, even when it feels unclear or contradictory.

Today I noticed that I often...
A situation that brought up a strong response was...
The first thought that appeared was...
My body seemed to respond by...
What I may have needed in that moment was...

The Pause and Notice Practice

This is a simple awareness practice for moments when something inside you shifts.

You do not need to solve what you notice. The practice is simply to create a little more space between the experience and the response.

Pause Stop for a few seconds before doing anything.
Notice What is happening in your thoughts, emotions and body?
Name Use simple words if they help. Tense. Worried. Angry. Confused. Tired.
Ask What might I need right now?
Choose Decide what you want to do next instead of only following the first impulse.
A gentle reminder

Self awareness is not the same as constantly analysing yourself.

Awareness creates space.

Helpful awareness often feels like noticing, observing and becoming curious.

It can help you see choices that were difficult to see before.

Overthinking creates loops.

When reflection becomes repetitive, harsh or focused only on finding certainty, it may stop being useful.

You are allowed to notice something and then leave it alone for a while.

“

You do not have to change everything you become aware of.

Sometimes awareness is simply the moment you stop moving automatically and begin noticing that another response may be possible.
