Some weights are easy to see.
Others live quietly in remembering, anticipating, worrying and making sure nothing falls apart.
The appointment you cannot forget. The thing someone else will need later. The conversation you are already preparing for. The problem you are trying to prevent before it even arrives.
None of those things may look heavy from the outside.
But your attention is still carrying them.
How much of what makes you tired is not visible on your to-do list?
Notice what you have been carrying.
Sit with Nasia for a few minutes. You do not need to put anything down yet. Sometimes seeing the weight clearly is already a meaningful beginning.
When carrying becomes normal
Responsibility can become so familiar that you stop experiencing it as something you are carrying.
You simply become the person who remembers.
The person who anticipates. The person who checks. The person who keeps track. The person who makes sure everyone is okay.
And when a role becomes familiar enough, it can begin to feel less like something you do and more like who you are.
Instead of asking,
“How can I become strong enough to carry all of this?”
what changes when you ask:
“Does all of this still belong to me?”
Some things belonged to another season
There are responsibilities, habits and roles that once made sense.
They helped you respond to something that was happening then.
But life can move forward while the role stays behind.
And sometimes we keep carrying an old responsibility simply because we never stopped to ask whether the journey changed.
Three questions to leave open.
What am I mentally carrying that nobody else can see?
The remembering? The anticipating? The worrying? The responsibility for how everyone else is doing?Which responsibilities are truly mine, and which ones have become mine because I am used to taking them on?
Notice whether there is a difference between responsibility and automatic responsibility. If I put one thing down, what am I afraid might happen?
Would someone be disappointed? Would something go wrong? Would you feel guilty? Would you still know who you are if you were not the one holding it?Listen for the automatic “I’ll do it.”
The next time something needs to be remembered, organised, solved or carried, notice how quickly you place yourself in the role of the person responsible.
You do not need to say no.
You do not need to change anything yet.
Just notice whether you chose the responsibility or whether your mind had already picked it up before you even considered the question.
Sometimes carrying everything becomes more than a habit.
It can become connected to feeling useful, needed, dependable or safe.
If being the one who holds everything together has become part of how you understand yourself, what would it mean to no longer carry all of it?
You do not need to answer that here. It may be one of those questions worth spending more time with.
Strength is not only the ability to carry more.
Sometimes it is recognising what no longer needs to travel with you.
Stay with what feels relevant.
